Teas All tea comes from the same plant, an evergreen of the Camellia family that is native to China, Tibet and northern India. There are two main varieties of the tea plant. The small leaf variety, known as Camellia sinensis, thrives in the cool, high mountain regions of central China and Japan. The broad leaf variety, known as Camellia assamica, thrives in the moist climates found in Northeast India and the Szechuan and Yunnan provinces of China. Where the tea is grown, the climate, soil conditions, altitude etc and how the tea is processed , determines the flavour characteristics of the tea. There are four main groups of tea: black tea, oolong tea, green tea and white tea. All our teas are sold in either 50g or 100g bags. The bags we use are triple layered to preserve the flavour and quality of your tea. We realise that sometimes our customers may wish to sample a new tea before ordering a large quantity. Our sample pouches contain 20g of tea, and will make approximately 7-10 cups of tea. This is a great way to learn about new teas. If you see ETP beside your favourite tea, it means that the tea manufacturer is part of The Ethical Tea Partnership. The aim of ETP is to demonstrate that the tea ETP members’ source is responsibly produced. To do this, members must work in a non competitive way, respecting cultural differences and above all working in partnership with tea producers. Like Fairtrade, ETP aims to ensure decent living standards and working conditions on the tea estates that supply them. |
